You will carry out high-quality automotive painting and surface preparation work on premium European and Japanese vehicles. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform surface preparation for painting jobs — sanding, filling, priming, masking, and surface cleaning to professional standards
- Apply primer, base coat (solid and metallic), and clear coat finishes using spray gun — wet-on-wet and standard processes
- Achieve accurate color matching for spot repairs, panel repairs, and full panel respray jobs; minimize visible color difference between repaired and original panels
- Carry out panel beating and minor bodywork preparation before painting (or coordinate closely with the bodywork team)
- Apply paint on a wide variety of panel types — bumpers (plastic), metal panels, mirrors, and trims
- Manage drying, flash-off times, and oven/booth baking times correctly for each paint system used
- Carry out polishing and finishing after painting — compound cutting, machine polishing, and hand polishing to remove orange peel and achieve a showroom finish
- Handle special finishes — pearlescent, matte, two-tone, and metallic paints used on premium European and Japanese vehicles
- Inspect all painting work thoroughly before handing over to the customer; ensure no runs, sags, dirt contamination, or mismatched color is delivered
- Maintain the paint booth and spray area in clean, dust-free, and organized condition
- Manage and correctly store paints, thinners, hardeners, and other paint materials; minimize waste
- Follow safety procedures when handling paint chemicals and working in the spray booth
- Complete each job within the agreed timeframe and maintain the quality expected by a premium service centre
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Surface preparation — sanding (dry and wet), body filler application and shaping, spot putty, epoxy primer, and surfacer application
- Spray gun technique — HVLP spray gun operation, fan width, pressure adjustment, and overlapping technique
- 2K polyurethane paint systems — base coat / clear coat (BC/CC) and single-stage systems
- Waterborne paint system handling (advantage)
- Color mixing and color matching — manual and computerized (advantage)
- Metallic, pearlescent, and solid color application
- Plastic bumper preparation and adhesion promoter application
- Machine polishing and hand polishing — compound, polish, and wax
- Masking techniques for panel blending and spot repairs
- Basic panel beating and dent repair knowledge
- Paint defect identification and correction — orange peel, fish-eye, runs, dry spray
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 6–10 years of automotive painting experience in a professional workshop
- Proven experience painting premium European or Japanese vehicles such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, Land Rover, Toyota, or Lexus
- Experience working with modern 2K paint systems and paint booth equipment
- Portfolio of clean, high-quality previous work available for review is strongly preferred
TOOLS / EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE
- HVLP spray gun (Sata, Anest Iwata, Devilbiss, or equivalent quality brand)
- Air compressor with moisture trap and regulator
- Infrared spot curing lamp
- Spray booth / baking oven
- Dual-action (DA) orbital polisher and rotary machine polisher
- Paint thickness gauge
- Color mixing system / spectrophotometer (if available)
- Sanding blocks, sanding papers (P80–P2000), and wet-and-dry sanding equipment
- Body filler tools — spreaders, rasps, and mixing board
- Masking tape dispenser, plastic sheeting, and masking paper
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
- No specific formal qualification required — demonstrated skill and experience are the primary criteria. Vocational training in automotive painting or bodywork is an advantage.
PREFERRED CANDIDATE PROFILE
- Candidates who have worked in a premium body shop or a workshop that handles European luxury vehicles
- Strong eye for color accuracy — able to achieve correct color match on first attempt on most solid and metallic shades
- Patient, detail-oriented, and able to maintain consistency across long painting sessions
- Disciplined with paint material usage and booth cleanliness
- Willing to learn new paint products and techniques as required by the job
